There are different methods to control cockroaches but it’s always important to remember that a follow up treatment must be done if possible, in order to break the cycle of the cockroach. Your house should be cleaned on a regular basis and always keep an eye out for any cockroach activity or eggs (small black dots). Kitchens is a breading place for cockroaches because of the availability of food. Extra focus must be applied to determine the breading place. Cracks, crevices, moist and dark hiding places under sinks, drains are a few key areas to focus on to apply a treatment.

More About Cockroaches

Cockroach is the most common name for this type of insects. The vast majority of Cockroaches are characterized by their oval shape, foul odour, and their status as a general household pest. There are about 4000 species worldwide. About 25 species have attained worldwide distribution due to accidental transport. Cockroaches are an ancient group, having changed little in appearance in over 320 million years. They will eat almost anything in their path and they are found everywhere.

Cockroaches use pheromones to attract mates, and the males practice courtship rituals, such as posturing and stridulation. Like many insects, cockroaches mate facing away from each other with their genitalia in contact, and copulation can be prolonged. A few species are known to be parthenogenic reproducing without the need for males.

The female usually attaches the egg case to a substrate, inserts it into a suitably protective crevice, or carries it about until just before the eggs hatch. Some species, however, are ovoviviparous, keeping the eggs inside their bodies, with or without an egg case, until they hatch.

Cockroach nymphs development is generally slow, and may take a few months to over a year. The adults are also long-lived, and have been recorded as surviving for four years in the laboratory.
